Original air date: February 14, 2015Blue Republican was born out of an article written on the Huffington Post to persuade Obama voters that if they voted for Obama in 2008 because they liked civil rights, peace and an end to cronyism, then the only candidate with a record on those things in 2011/12 was an old white conservative Republican, by the name of Ron Paul.
The article went viral and Blue Republican was within about a week the largest coalition for Ron Paul during his 2011/12 campaign – and remained so until he was denied the nomination.
Now, the Blue Republican movement has outlasted Paul’s campaign, and exists to make the case for liberty in the language of those who might be skeptical of libertarianism, and especially those who lean left. We are about winning supporters – not just arguments – and bringing the concept of Love into politics in a way that breaks through traditional political paradigms and identities. We are – and we are making – sales and marketing experts for liberty. Now we are setting up chapters across the country with a view to moving the dials of our mainstream culture and politics in the direction of liberty.
For activists, Blue Republican offers a unique opportunity because it offers them a national brand to leverage in the most effective way they can think of in their community, given their experience and skills, without limiting their political entrepreneurship. Being an unofficial movement – rather than an incorporated organization – self-identified Blue Republicans can use Blue Republican resources without having to comply with any regulations. Market liberty your way – but networked with other free individuals and with the influence that comes with speaking for a tried-and-tested non-partisan liberty brand in your state.
