Where do Patients Turn When Facing Life Changing Medical Debt?
Dave Introduces Dr. Melissa Joyner today. Dr. George is running a little late because of the weather. Dr. Joyner is a radiation oncologist in Houston, Texas. She received her medical degree from University of Texas Medical School. Dr. Joyner starts the show focusing on the topic of homeless veterans and how to provide better care for them. The Affordable Care Act wasn’t written to provide better medical care for people. It was written to benefit corporations, middlemen & to expand power of government. A lot of ACA doesn’t make sense to healthcare at all. Government would have served the country better by expanding Medicaid.
It’s time for people to focus on educating themselves on how to navigate the current healthcare system. Patients need to put pressure on the insurance companies to change their practices and they need to demand upfront pricing from doctors & hospitals.
What can patients do when they are looking at overwhelming medical costs? Dr. Joyner explains special programs & tools some companies and hospitals have to help them cope with the very high costs of quality care.
