Robin Turns the Table on Meagan Nelson and Interviews Her.
Alienated by her experience of the lack of ethics she encountered when working inside DC politics, Meagan decided to take a different approach to improving her society – setting up her blog “Dinner and Democracy” which uses food and pop culture as a “way-in” to discuss cultural and political issues of the day. She is motivated by the truth, which Robin often espouses, that you have to speak to people “where they are” – i.e. about things they are really interested in. She contrasts her approach to discussing trends in popular culture with that of politicians who try to use logic and emotion to communicate their ideas – but do so in a way that seems irrelevant to the everyday lives of We the People.
We discuss the relationships between food and cultural identity, body image issues and eating disorders, and food and politics.
